The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is scheduled to hear petitions seeking the suspension of sentences for Mr. Imran Khan and Ms. Bushra Bibi in a case related to a £190 million settlement. A division bench, comprising IHC Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif, will preside over the hearing on March 31. Concurrently, the Supreme Court is slated to hear Mr. Khan's appeals in a separate defamation case initiated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the same date.

This development follows previous legal proceedings where sentences were issued in the aforementioned case. The current petitions represent an attempt by the individuals involved to seek a suspension of these sentences, pending further legal review. The simultaneous scheduling of hearings in two distinct cases by different superior courts highlights the ongoing judicial processes concerning prominent political figures.

This topic is relevant to CSS aspirants under Constitutional Law and Governance, specifically concerning the functioning of the judiciary, due process, and the legal framework for accountability. Discussion points include: How do superior courts exercise their appellate and revisional jurisdiction in criminal matters? What are the grounds for suspension of a sentence, and what is the role of judicial review in ensuring fair trial and accountability?
